WE WILL NOT FORGET. Originally composed for duduk and string orchestra, this music was composed during 2020, at a time when Hamas was once again firing missiles at Israel. I decided to record it in 2023, following Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel. It is a musical reminder of the long list of genocides that one or another tribe has inflicted on another throughout human history. After every genocide, we say “we will not forget” – but then we do.

WHEN THE WAR ENDS, WE WILL DANCE AGAIN. An addition to my MUSIC FOR UKRAINE series, this string symphony was inspired by hope that Ukrainians will achieve their dream of freedom from Russian violence and oppression. It imagines a time when Russian soldiers no longer occupy Ukrainian villages and Ukrainians can live in freedom.

SERENADE. Originally composed for oboe and string orchestra, I decided to record this with soprano saxophone after hearing Javier Oviedo perform it at a concert in New York. As the title suggests, it is a love song of sorts.

JAVIER OVIEDO stands as one of the brightest soloist performers of the classical saxophone world. Acclaimed for his lustrous tone, passionate musicianship, and formidable technique, he has kept alive the excitement and versatility of his instrument through his tireless efforts to revive old compositions and champion new music for saxophone. An accomplished chamber musician, Mr. Oviedo has performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Salle Cortot, and at The United Nations. He has appeared with the New Jersey Symphony, the Austin Symphony, the Chattanooga Symphony, l’Orchestre Lamoureux, l’Orchestre à Cordes d’Ariège in France, and both National Philharmonics of Moldova and Russia in Oryol.

DONGMIN KIM is quickly carving out a reputation as one of the most exhilarating and flexible conductors of his generation. As the Music Director of the cutting-edge New York Classical Players (NYCP), he continues to stamp his influence on the world stage. His past and future performances are set for renowned venues like the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, Herbst Theatre, Faulkner Performing Arts Center, Seoul Arts Center, and Lotte Concert Hall among others.
